Description
For the 2025 philatelic program and as part of the Grandes Heures de l'Histoire de France series, La Poste is commemorating the victory of May 8, 1945 with a block of two postage stamps. "On May 8, at last, the news was confirmed. Numerous photographs show the jubilation and joy in Paris. On the night of May 7, 1945, Nazi Germany signed its unconditional surrender. The cessation of fighting took effect on May 8, 1945: it was "V" Day all over France, and scenes of jubilation, widely photographed, occurred quite spontaneously. Official events were organized between May 8 and 9. The parade on the Champs-Elysées with the Allied forces, prisoners of war, deportees returning from the camps... The evening of May 8 was given over to popular dances, and the following day saw religious services at Notre-Dame."
