Description
This notebook was produced in collaboration with the Musée du Jouet in Poissy (78) and Moirans-en-Montagne (39). The 12 objects featured in this notebook illustrate children's toys in vogue in the early 20th and 19th centuries. As early as the 16th and 17th centuries in art (Brueghel, Chardin...), fashion engravings in the 19th century (where pretty ladies pose with their well-groomed offspring), then chromolithographs (those little brightly-colored advertising cards distributed to department store customers until the Great War) and photo-cards from the late 19th and early 20th centuries (the child posing proudly on his wooden or mechanical horse), the toy is a witness to the times. Before over-industrialization, the era of plastic and electronics, toys were handcrafted from wood (woodturners in the Jura region in particular), iron, porcelain or fabric. Today, old-fashioned toys are outdated objects, full of charm and sought-after by passionate, nostalgic collectors. Taking an interest in vintage toys is like taking a trip back in time and into the history of society. But it's also an opportunity to keep our childlike spirit alive.
