Description

E-SPORT E-sport is the practice of competitive video gaming. It's a sport that demands a great deal of determination, training, endurance and time on the part of professional gamers. Like sport, e-sport can be broken down into a range of disciplines, grouped into categories according to their form and specific features. While the majority of e-sports are played in teams, some are played individually, as in the case of games mimicking combat sports. In general, however, the aim is not so much to reproduce reality - apart from specifically sporting simulations - as to add additional elements, or even to invent a world and rules from scratch. Whether the competition takes place in person or remotely, on console, computer or cell phone, the aim remains the same for the competitors: to demonstrate that they can outperform their opponents on the same terrain and under identical conditions. E-sport is beginning to make inroads with the major traditional sporting bodies - notably the Olympic Games - who see it as a way of transmitting the values of such events to young people. In the same way as sports, competitors compete in national or continental leagues to try and reach the world championships at the end of the year. French players include Sébastien "Ceb" Debs on Dota 2, Marie-Laure "Kayane" Norindr on Street Fighter, Paul "sOAZ" Boyer on League of Legends, Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut on Counter-Strike, Clément "Clem" Desplanches on StarCraft II and, among the younger players, Alexis "zen" Bernier and Axel "Vatira" Touret on Rocket League, regularly win the most prestigious international competitions.
