Description
With a presence in 4 of the world's 5 oceans, and the 2nd largest maritime area in the world, France is committed to ensuring that the marine environment is in good condition, through international, European and national policies to preserve and restore biodiversity. With its menacing appearance and long-toothed jaws, the moray eel hides in crevices during the day. Its reputation for aggression is unfair: it only attacks to defend itself! The Mediterranean devil (2nd largest ray in the world), which tends to live on the surface, is unfortunately an endangered species. The corb, with its elegant silhouette, has become rare on French coasts, but is gradually repopulating the waters of marine reserves. On the other hand, it's easy to get close to the shy, silvery-grey sharpnose seabream with its light and dark stripes, and to observe the common octopus which, in case of danger, can disappear under a cloud of black ink or change color to blend into its surroundings. Recognizable by its bright yellow, green and blue livery, here's the peacock crab, which feeds on a mouthful of algae from which it extracts small invertebrates, and the green crab, particularly invasive, which appreciates muddy or sandy bottoms. A member of the crustacean family, the ten-legged hermit crab gets on well with the sea anemone. The sea anemone protects the hermit crab under its stinging tentacles, and takes advantage of its food scraps. A marvellous underwater world, where you can come across the plume of the smooth protula or the red starfish... The splendor of gorgonian and coral forests should not blind us to the fact that 50% of coral reefs have disappeared in the last 30 years. Faced with an often endangered fauna, it's more important than ever to take action.
