Description
From June 9 to 13, Nice will be hosting the third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3). UNOC3 aims to strengthen the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14) on the marine environment, with three priorities, in order to achieve an ambitious draft agreement: 1. work towards the successful conclusion of ocean-related multilateral processes to raise the level of ambition for ocean protection. 2. mobilize financing for ODD14 and support the development of a sustainable blue economy. 3. strengthen and better disseminate marine science knowledge for better policy-making. The stamp illustrates Nice in its marine environment as seen from the Promenade des Anglais, with its blue chairs and lighthouse on the left. Leucophée gulls play while dolphins frolic in the bay. Around the perimeter of the sheet are the regalec (a long bony fish from the Mediterranean abyss), a pilot whale, Mediterranean fish (aublade, grouper and common pageot) and in the bottom margin, corals to evoke the endangered seabed around the world. The Nice Côte d'Azur metropolis boasts a rich and sometimes little-known biodiversity, with 6,035 species listed in the database (2019), and numerous sightings (from 248 to 42,084 sighting data in 2019, depending on the commune); all on a highly contrasting territory of 1,466 km2 covering 3 areas. Solitary and familiar dolphins have even been spotted on the coast.
