Description
Destroyed and rebuilt several times, Notre-Dame Cathedral in Sées (Orne) is a jewel of Norman Gothic architecture, its two spires visible for miles around. The current Gothic nave was built between 1220 and 1240. The choir and transept, begun in the second half of the 13th century, were completed in the early 14th, and the church was dedicated to Notre Dame in 1310. The choir is a masterpiece of Ile-de-France Radiant Gothic. It features a fine collection of 13th- and 14th-century stained glass windows. The organ visible today was rebuilt by Cavaillé-Coll between 1881 and 1883, and restored and enlarged in the 20th century. It has been listed as a historic monument since 1875. Since 2013, every summer (except 2020, of course), thanks to the association "art et cathédrale N-D de Sées", the cathedral has been remarkably enhanced by a magnificent show entitled "Les Musilumières", with images projected onto the interior structure, evoking the history of the building. The sheet outline is illustrated by the nave of the cathedral, in the center of which the stamps are enthroned in majesty.
