Description
In 1970, the stamp printing plant was set up in Périgueux (24). Since then, a host of specific printing techniques and historic and modern machines have been put to work for philately and secure products. To mark the Imprimerie's 55th anniversary, a series of 4 collectors illustrates the historical and modern machines and 4 printing techniques used at the Boulazac (24) stamp printing works. This collector illustrates the rotogravure technique. This printing technique is appreciated for its dense, vivid color quality. It can also be used to process images containing flat areas of color, as seen in contemporary works of art. As with intaglio printing, only the hollows are printed. The original visual is obtained by superimposing the four basic colors (cyan, magenta, yellow and black), one cylinder per color and water-based ink. The visual is imposed and engraved on cylinders using an electromechanical bench. Mounted on rotary presses during the printing process, these rollers are dipped into the ink: the hollowed-out cells are filled with ink, the surplus is removed by a doctor blade, the paper is brought into contact with the cylinder and the ink is deposited. In this way, the superimposition of the four primary colors restores the original design. The latest Rotomec gravure press can print up to 10 colors on both sides. Stamps - Rotomec rotogravure press installed in 2006, 10 printing units on both sides. - Printing a sheet of stamps on a 6-color Chambon press, acquired in 1964.
