Pre-stamped postcard - Happy New Year - military - International

To mark the 150th anniversary of the postcard in France, La Poste is reissuing 10 cards illustrating the golden age of the postcard (i.e. up to the 1920s) with a stamp on the reverse that was in use at the time of their first issue, making them ready to mail and travel as pre-stamped cards at the international rate. The Great War brought new uses: illustrating battlefields and ruins, bearing witness or serving as patriotic propaganda. Epistolary exchanges between soldiers and families (or wartime godmothers) were essential, and reading the cards was often moving. Tens of thousands of cards circulated daily for over 4 years.
