L’Équipe Turns 80: A Passion That Knows No End There has been so much to say, to write, and to capture on camera since February 28, 1946. L’Équipe, which today boasts a staff of 400 journalists, has always covered sports and followed them into gyms, stadiums, swimming pools, ice rinks, on tracks, and on the roads—summer and winter alike, in France and abroad. Over the past 80 years, many front pages have left a lasting impression on generations, as have iconic images drawn from the 13 million photographs in our photo archive. A legacy that can also be found on the L’Équipe channel, the leading sports channel in France. What unites the L’Équipe of yesterday and today and will unite the L’Équipe of tomorrow can be summed up in a single word: transmission. To pass on is to give, to perpetuate, to bequeath, to transform, and to prepare for the future. Just as in the practice of sports, through a relay, a pass, or an experience shared among champions or between big stars and beginners... We must never forget where we came from, nor what made L’Équipe a great popular newspaper. A media outlet that sparks debate and passion, whether read in print, on a phone, or while cheering along to events broadcast on its television channel. We must not erase the great victories and defeats we’ve reported on, the champions we’ve followed or brought to light, nor the great writers who have shaped its history. But we must also look ahead. Find the balance between our legacy and a future full of energy. A future where sports extend beyond the playing fields to take its place at the heart of society. Inclusion, gender equality, culture, the economy, the environment, justice, and politics: sports are everywhere. And L’Équipe will continue to support and report on these new issues.
