To mark the 150th anniversary of the postcard in France, La Poste is reissuing 10 cards illustrating the golden age of the postcard (i.e. up to the 1920s) with a stamp used at the time on the reverse, making them ready to mail and travel as pre-stamped cards at the international rate.

Named after its inventor, a young entrepreneur from Marseilles, Dominique Piazza (1860-1941), it was invented in August 1891. It was the first card with photographs, thanks to phototyping, "a process for the mechanical reproduction of images by transferring a photograph onto a glass plate covered with a layer of bichromate gelatin". This process enabled the production of an enormous number of cheaply printed clichés.
His invention, which was not protected by a trademark, was soon copied extensively. This very early card is therefore extremely rare.

Dans le cadre des 150 ans de la carte postale en France, La Poste réédite 10 cartes illustrant l'âge d'or de la carte postale (soit jusqu'aux années 20) revêtues au verso d'un timbre en usage à l'époque, devenant ainsi des cartes pré-timbrées au tarif international prêtes à poster et à voyager.

Du nom de son inventeur, un jeune entrepreneur marseillais, Dominique Piazza (1860-1941), elle fut inventée en août 1891. Sa spécificité c’est la première carte avec photographies, grâce à la phototypie, « procédé de reproduction mécanique d’images par report d’un cliché sur une plaque de verre recouverte d’une couche de gélatine bichromatée ». Ce procédé permet de produire une masse énorme de clichés imprimés à bon marché.
Son invention, non protégée par un dépôt de marque, fut très rapidement copiée abondamment. Cette carte, très précoce, est donc très rare.
