As part of the Stamp Festival, this year's 2026 stamp features street painters. "Sunday painters, enlightened amateurs or professionals, they have made the street their studio. Concentrated behind their easels, eyes riveted on their sketchbooks, armed with brushes, markers, chalk or charcoal, everything inspires them: a panorama, a landscape, the sky and clouds... They cast their artist's eye over the charm of a square, the detail of a monument, the play of light in the leaves of a tree, the reflections of water along a quay. Where others fix the moment by taking a photo, these artists deliver a personal, and often poetic, vision of what they contemplate and feel. Far from galleries or museums, street painters freely exhibit their work in the city. There's something generous about this approach. Shaking up the traditional relationship between artists and spectators, they share their emotions with an ephemeral public who naturally witness the birth of a work of art. Like many artists before them, they paint on the open-air motif, seeking to capture the moment, the vibration of light and the variations of color. In a free, spontaneous gesture, street painters transcribe an immediate sensation. By appropriating urban space, they forge a relationship with passers-by that is as authentic as it is unexpected, and they suddenly begin to look with new eyes at an environment that, until then, might have seemed banal. They embody a form of popular art where creation meets everyday life. Just as street art artists do in their own way, street painters help to give a soul back to the city. Their approach makes culture visible and alive." Editor : Fabienne Azire
