Stamp Festival 2026. Street art If there's one thing as global and universal as postal mail, it's street art! This wild artistic movement can be found in every city on five continents, wherever men and women place art in urban spaces free of charge and without authorization. Street art can be divided into two distinct movements, both emerging at the same time. In the USA, inner-city youths in the 1960s began writing their nicknames - their blazes - in spray cans and markers on the streets, creating a new calligraphy that first became tagging, then graffiti. Simultaneously, in France, artists such as Gérard Zlotykamien and Ernest Pignon-Ernest took to the walls with works of art of all kinds: collages, drawings, stencils, chalk, mosaics, etc., claiming a free artistic act without permission: this is Street art. More than 60 years later, this major artistic movement of our time has already given prestigious names to art history, such as Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat or, closer to home, the mysterious Banksy. But above all, it transforms our cities into wild art galleries, to the delight of passers-by and art lovers in ever-increasing numbers, who are fascinated by these offbeat, sometimes committed, but always stimulating works! La Poste entrusted the creation of this stamp to Hopare, whose real name is Alexandre Monteiro, born in Paris in 1989. Over the years, this artist has brought together graffiti, street art and contemporary painting. His work unites the rigor of line with the power of emotion. The faces he paints, with their intense, penetrating gazes, question what we see of the world and what we choose to look at. Codex Urbanus
